Porter House Review, The Radiator Hisses Steam And Drips Uncontrollable Scalding Droplets, June 2024

This story is so much more than a long winded title, which I hope exudes the breathless frustration of our protagonist Dahlia. It was a finalist in the Porter House Review Editor’s Prize 2023-2024. Although it didn’t win, they chose to publish it all the same. I’m proud to share it with you.

Description: The story spans one night in the undefinable relationship of Dahlia Delgado and her closest confidante, Adriano, during a winter storm. Sifting through a tumultuous interiority, each moment passes in a volley of unsaid desires and misunderstandings, decades in the making. Otherness permeates every aspect of Dahlia's personhood, including her own feelings and decisions as she ignores pragmatism for the glorious pain of fleeting affection. Readers will find themselves in one of the two characters, bracing themselves against commitment or desperately grasping at the past despite the blaring call of the needy present.
